What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is a fraternity in which men come together to build friendships, strengthen their character, and serve their communities. Members meet in local lodges for fellowship, learning, and ceremonies that use stories and symbols to explore lessons about honesty, responsibility, and respect.
What happens in a lodge?
Masons gather for meetings, degree ceremonies, education, and time together. They support one another and take part in charitable and community work. Each lodge has its own traditions and activities, but the aim is to put good principles into practice beyond the lodge room.
Is Freemasonry a religion?
Freemasonry is not a religion and does not ask members to follow one particular faith. In Iowa, a man seeking membership must believe in a Supreme Being. Members of different faiths can meet as brothers, and lodges set aside political and sectarian debate.
