West Gate-Adelphic LodgeNo. 509 · A.F. & A.M.

History of Our Lodge

West Gate-Adelphic Lodge No.509, A. F. & A. M. stands as a proud symbol of Masonic tradition, brotherhood, and community service in Windsor Heights, Iowa. Its history reflects the enduring values of Freemasonry—faith, integrity, charity, and the continual pursuit of self-improvement.

Origins and Formation:

The Lodge traces its heritage to the unification of three strong Masonic Lodges: Adelphic, West Gate, and New Century. Each lodge had built its own legacy of service, fellowship, and dedication to Masonic principles. Their eventual union formed West Gate-Adelphic Lodge No.509 in 1986, strengthening the Fraternity in the local community and preserving the rich traditions of the founding bodies. This merger represented more than administrative unity, it symbolized a commitment to brotherhood, continuity, and shared purpose. By combining their memberships, resources, and histories, the new lodge created a stronger foundation for future generations of Masons.

A Home in Windsor Heights:

In the “heart of it all” at 1141 69th Street. Windsor Heights, Iowa, the lodge building, has become a landmark. It serves not only as a meeting place for Masons, but also as a center for fellowship, charity, education, and community engagement. Within its walls, generations of men have been initiated, passed, and raised, continuing the ancient traditions of the Craft.

Commitment to Masonic Values:

West Gate-Adelphic Lodge No. 509 has always stood for the core principles of Freemasonry:

  • Brotherly Love – Building strong bonds of respect, unity, and fellowship
  • Relief – Serving those in need through charity and compassion
  • Truth – Promoting integrity, moral character, and personal growth

Through ritual, education, and service, the lodge works to shape not just better Masons, but better men.

Service to the Community:

Community service has long been a defining mission of the lodge. Members actively support local charities, food programs, veterans’ initiatives, youth development efforts, and community outreach projects. These acts of service reflect the Masonic teachings that Freemasonry must live not only in the lodge room, but in daily life. The lodge’s charitable efforts in Central Iowa demonstrate its dedication to improving lives, strengthening families, and supporting those in need.

A Living Legacy Today:

West Gate-Adelphic Lodge No.509 continues to thrive as a place of fellowship, leadership development, moral instruction, and service. It honors the past while preparing men for the future— teaching responsibility, discipline, integrity, and service to others.

More than a building or an organization, the lodge is a brotherhood—one that transforms lives through shared values, purpose, and commitment.
